    This is a totally wild guess, but could these blue links be the IE default icons?
    On the other, I am thinking View as WebPage is in use here. Perhaps renaming all Folder.Htt [Hidden] files to eliminate them as a problem?

    No its within folders the links wont work,, no big inconvenience

    just wondering what if any the problem is

    I have undone any folder customizations and deleted the left over "folder settings" folder's and jumbled up folder settings.. meaning changed things ok'd out and went back and changed again..
    and have also created new standard folders ,no go
    strange the links to the left inside control panel work as do
    C:\ and program files

    what is a class-id showing for, when hovering over I see
    from my computer
    my docs (status bar)
    file:///::{450d8fba-ad25-11d0-98a8-0800361b1103}

    from my-docs
    my computer
    file://:::{20d04fe0-3aea-1069-a2d8-08002b30309b}

    these don't show on other folder links,, just a description

    This is probably a consequence of some tweaking program ive used

    The shell folders seem to be corrupted. An overlay install, maybe?

    Well I would but am chicken :) If I do do a reinstall it will be after a format..
    such a little thing I don't think it warrants the effort

    Since csdl's and improct servers,shell extensions seam to be involved (don't ask me how) I'm thinking regseeker has removed something necessary for those links within folders to work
    450d8fba-ad25-11d0-98a8-0800361b1103 is defiantly there but I do not find the other.

    Unfortunately I only have the most recently backups
