    Hi Everyone,

I finally managed to setup our home network (4 PC's) and can access any computer from any computer except my backup drive, an external USB IOMEGA device. The latter is attached to one specific workstation and the additional drive-letters (visible on this specific workstation) don't appear on the home network (sharing parameters are OK).

Is there a reason for this ? USB-connected devices ?

    Present configs : 3 x Win XP SP2 and 1 x Vista/Ultima
    - one wired to a (wireless) router,
    - one connected wireless to the same router
    - two connected thru a single 4-ports electrical (Netgear) powerline XE104
    - an extra powerline XE102 being connected to the wireless router

    Thanks for any advice !

Sharing a USB drive across a network

Is the USB drive shared to begin with.
If it is plugged in it should show up as a standard drive which you should be able to share as any other resource across the network.
You might want to try a program called network magic if you are having trouble setting it up.
The network magic should set it up if you chose to .
At least then you can know that is possible and you can then set it manually if you chose to.
Another option is you are stuck - but try the first one first is to set up a sharing network with Hamachi

Sharing a USB drive "not enough server storage is available to process this command'

Hi and thank you Visionof !

You suggested earlier (when I was struggling with the Netgear's powerlines) this Network Magic solution and, although it interacts very userfriendly it didn't have a solution for my problem then. I tried again to involve Network Magic in this specific problem today and keep struggling with something wierd:
    - the external USB back-up drive is now visible on the network with its 4 partitions (and of course all drives are set to full sharing to the home network incl. users allowed to change files)
    - but when a PC on the network clicks on one of the partitions/drives , it keeps repeating an error (known by MS and others as far as I can read on the net), i.e. "driveX is not accessible. You might not have permission... blabla (all PC's are setup with admin rights) - not enough server storage is available to process this command'
Network Magic's support area suggests, for this specific error, to add a line to the registry -which I did : no success.

I escalated the item now to Network Magic, hopefully they'll recognize this and have an alternative solution.

If anything comes up, I'll keep you posted.
Thanks anyway for your active and kind participation !

Network Magic is really "magic "

    Hello Visionof,

Thanks a lot for the very good suggestion of using Network Magic...
After extensive readings in their FAQs, I discovered that the Windows users' file permissions were a headache sometimes and that they (Network Magic) still worked on these issues.
So -out of curiosity- I deleted all sharing permissions in Windows Explorer, restarted the system, and used the file sharing system through the Network Magic interface, and BINGO ! It works beautifully.

    Thx for your assistance again.
