If I'm using Windows Media Player on computer A is it possible to get the sound coming out of computer B's speakers as well? Sort of sharing the speakers through the network?

You mean out of A & B at the same time? Or play on A and hear on B? Or what?

Newt, I mean either one, or both. Can it be done, and if so, how?

If you just want to play music, one way is to install an MP3 server like Streamsicle on computer A and connect to the server's playlist from any computer on the network using winamp or media player (winamp works better).

But what if I want computer A to play music out of its speakers as well as the speakers on computer B, where the two machines are on a LAN but the speakers plug into each computer's own sound card?

Any way to make that work?

You can still play music on the MP3 server in the same way as the clients and they should be in perfect sync.

You could get a long cable and if needed a splitter, and wire the line output of computer a into the line input of computer b. Then on b turn the volume on the line in up and you should have the sound come out of the other compters speakers.
