2 computers both with XP (one laptop and one desktop)
    networked via linksys router
desktop can read everything on laptop
laptop can see workgroup can get on it though

desktop has printer attached to it and shared also
laptop can not print to the printer either

I have checked and I do not have the XP firewall on

Both do have ZoneAlarm on though.

I have basically the same setup and the shared printer works, so I know it's not the Linksys router.

You wrote, "laptop can see workgroup can get on it though" A typo? Did you mean "cannot get on it "?

If so, it's probably Zone Alarm blocking access. Disable ZA on the desktop and try to access the desktop from the laptop. If successful, you'll need to get into Zone Alarm on the desktop and tell it to let the laptop's IP through. It's been a while since I've used ZA so I can't give you the details but I did figure out how to do that once so it's not impossible.

Also, the printer's software has to be installed on the laptop.

The desktop must be running in order for the laptop to access the printer through it, of course.

    Thanks for the info.
I ended up checking the ZoneAlarm and realized the laptop IP address was not loaded in to desktop settings.
    DUH

    Oh well, works now.

    Thanks
