2 computers Win 95 and Win98se. Want to share internet connection. I installed the 2 PCI network cards, network software, blah blah. I can share the printer and files but not the connection. This is using modem, phoneline. brutal I know lol. The internet company said each computer needs its own dial-up. I was wondering if I can still manage to share the connection. Maybe with a hub. If I'm sharing the printer and files, I'm sure the settings are ok. Do u think I need a proxy? Any info would be a great help.

    :D

On your network card on Win98, you should be able to share your LAN connection to the Internet if you have that configured. If you are using a dial-up, it's also possible. You configure ICS (Internet connection sharing), it will be on the properties sheet of the connection you are using to connect to the Internet. The wizard is pretty self explainitory. If you need help though, help is just a BBS away. :)

Don't waste your time with sharing internet connection via 1 computer.

Not only do you always have to have that computer on, but it also creates a serious security problem (UPnP) --see FBI recommendations
Plus who needs to have the headache of having two NICs in one machine.

Get an SMC Barricade DSL/Cable Router for about $100. This (and perhaps other brands by now) has a modem connection so you can share a Dial UP connection with up to 255 computers all at the same time. The modem port is featured as a backup in case DSL or cable is out, but you can use it with modem all the time. It is easy to setup--no Dial needs to be setup in any
machine--dialup can be either triggered by starting browswer or e-mail pgm, or as an option you manually make it dial and hang up. It's super easy to use and works really well. If at some point you get DSL or Cable you'll be ready to share that too.

Plus this router also has a printer sharing feature. Hook a printer to the printer port and share the printer over the network. A really well thought out Router!! Some people are actually using their brains for a change.
