We have 3 winodws XP and 1 Windows Vista machines. The problem is when I try to access the shared out folder on windows xp machine from the Vista machine I can see all the folder but can not access the My Documents folder that is shared out on the Windows Xp machine from Vista. I can see the folder from the Vista machine I can ping the computers by IP and by doing a nbtstat. When I try to access the shared folder from Vista I get the following error "pcname Its not accessible. You might not have permissions to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The Specified network name is no longer availiable" We have set the permissions and security. We have also installed the LLTD on all the Windows XP machines. Any advise or help would be great this has been driving me crazy. Thank you in advance.

Are your XP machine setup to require a username/password to log onto them? If not, might try doing that. Then when you try to connect from the Vista machine, you'll be prompeted with the same login request.

    Hi Steve,

Thank you for the reply. The 3 XP machines are not setup for passwords. The strange thing is that it was working with no pproblems up till about a week ago and then all the sudden this happend. No changes have been made. Forgot to mention that we are are using linksys router on both ends. The model of the routers are WRV54G. We are connected through a VPN

That's typical for networks where you don't set password. I've seen it a lot. It is almost that they systems become confused because they expect a password and get none. Windows networking always works better with passwords.

After you've added passwords, I'd also recommend you remove the QoS scheduler from the network properties as this can also cause this sort of problem.

    Hi ReggieB,

We have tried it with passwords and no go. It worked for the longest time without a password, and all the sudden we are having these issues. Not sure if maybe it could have been a windows update. If anyone else has any ideas I would like to hear them. Thank you in advance.

Might try turning off UAC on the Vista machine....

I've run into issues where if I'm trying to access an XP share folder and Win Explorer is open on that machine it doesn't work...
