I have had this problem from time to time and it annoys me.
    The scenario -
Two PC's (A and B) on a home network both running Windows XP.
Network set up some time ago.
Shared folders on BOTH PC's and are displayed and accessible after opening MY NETWORK PLACES.
Set a new folder on A to SHARED - it is NOT displayed in MY NETWORK PLACES on B.
I have even tried giving the share a different name than what Windows defaults to eg. folder name is VIDEO, Windows defaults to shared name of VIDEO and I change that to VIDEO ON E. Still not displayed.
The folder is on the SAME drive as other shared folders which are accessible.
This drives me insane as the PCs are at opposite ends of my house and I have to walk back and forth trying out different things.
Is there a limit to the number of shared folders?
    Any ideas/suggestions?

My Network Places can be very slow at updating.
Try this: My Network Places – View Workgroup Computers.
Use the workgroup computer icons, they instantly update.

You can drag them out to the desktop for quicker access.
