I have had two PCs conected via a router. Both computers are running ME and have their own IP adress to access the net. One of the computers has a folder that is shared and shares its printer and I have been able to access this folder and printer from the other computer without any problems.

I have just bought a laptop that has XP Pro installed. I connected it up to the router and gave it an IP etc. I can connect the the net no problem with the LapTop. The thing is I can't connect to the computer with the shared folder and printer.

I have pinged the computer and i get a response.

All the computers have the same work group name, all computers have a unique name.

    What is going on?

    Many thanks
    CP

It would help to know the exact IP addresses and subnet mask you have assigned to your PCs. It is easy enough to give one an IP address that won't allow it to work with others on the same system. Ping will do fine since it isn't looking for them to be on the same network but will give a return from any device it can find.

Also a help to know XP-home or XP-pro since they do some things very differently.

And to clarify for myself, are you unable to get the XP box to see the ME boxes, the ME boxes to see the XP box, or both?

Moving this from XP to networking since it is mostly a networking issue.
