    SFTP may refer to:

    Relating to file transfer:

SSH file transfer protocol, a network protocol designed to provide secure file transfer and manipulation facilities over the secure shell (SSH) protocol. This is typically meant in context of file transfer. This is not an IETF standard, but a draft.
FTP over SSH, the practice of running an FTP session over SSH, sometimes called Secure FTP. Rarely used, because FTP's normal 2-channel nature makes such tunneling difficult.
Simple File Transfer Protocol, an unsecured and rarely-used file transfer protocol from the early days of the Internet.
Serial File Transfer Protocol, a protocol used to transfer files between a PC and an embedded device using RS-232 or similar serial protocols.

It would be easier, if anything more secure, and more flexible to do the FTP over VPN and block any direct FTP access.

    Hi,
Installed and configured the sftp server for windows 2003 server, and able to login.
I can able to change the path for the directrory instaed of /home/<foldername> , d:/sftproot/<foldername>. Changed the path in passwd file and now i can acces that folder.

I want to lock the permission for that perticular folder only. Now while login to server point to perticular users folder, but he can come back and access other folder. Can anybody suggest me how to restrict the user to perticular folder.
    Thanks
    Kishore

What software are you using? It will probably need to be a setting in that software.

However, do the software have its own users and passwords, or does it use the system? If it uses system user account, you may be able to use file and folder permissions to restrict access.

Is the software run as a service? If so, create a new user account to run the service and then restrict that user to just the folders you want to share.
