Hey all, I just built a new computer system with (1) Maxtor IDE hard drive (C drive) and (2) SATA WD 80 GB hard drives connected to an ASUS P5S800-VM motherboard. After installing the "SIS RAID" program and selecting the two hard drives in the list to create RAID 1, I get the error "The RAID driver version is too old, the "Duplicate" function isn't workable!! ".

I downloaded a new driver from the ASUS website but that was older than the one that is currently on the ASUS motherboard CD. I contacted ASUS support and posted on the ASUS forums but have yet to receive any answer.

Is there something I am doing wrong? Shouldn't I be able to create RAID 1 with those two WD hard drives?

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks~

    Hi Collee,
I haven't set up many RAID systems. You may have missed one of the steps.

The drivers are on a floppy, correct? Take a look for any "readme" files on the floppy. Asus have very good manuals, have you missed anything there? The other place to look for instructions or troubleshooting is the Asus knowledgebase. There should also be information at the SIS website (and maybe the updated version of the drivers).

SIS are chipset manufacturer's, but I would not be certain that they produce SATA or RAID controller chips. Check that the controller/drivers for your RAID system are not manufacturered by another company and you are selecting the wrong ones. The specifications will be listed at the Asus website and tell you the brand and model of the RAID controller. Post back if you need help (the Asus "global" website is easier to navigate than the US website).

Do you need to install the drivers for the SATA controller first? You can install them by running the Win XP CD and pressing the F6 key when asked if you want to load "SCSI" drivers (watch the bottom of the screen). After you install the drivers you can cancel out of the rest of the installation.

I've been out of pocket for about a week and as a result have only been looking at a few threads of particular interest - sorry for not jumping in here earlier. You'll find SIL 3114 drivers for the Silicon Image SATA controller which is a SATA RAID controller. You have two steps to follow here - one is drivers at F6 prompt, but even before that, when you are booting you will have an opportunity to enter the RAID setup - it should be something like Ctrl H (which is Highpoint's entry point) but it will appear clearly on the screen. Setup your RAID configuration from there and also select the boot disc. Then exit and continue setting up windows.

    ;)

Mattman, Downloading the latest RAID driver and utility from SIS.com worked. I would of never known about SIS actually having a site and utility to do that unless you told me. I just figured ASUS would be the only one to offer the driver and utility. Thanks!!!!

Good one!:) Surprises me as well.

Rockster2U seemed to have identified the model, make a note of it for future reference if that is the one. Putting the model number into searches at the respective hardware manufacturer's websites can make short work of looking for updates.

I think you have made a good choice in setting up a RAID 1 system, hope it goes well.
