I just got my new computer with WinXP and the old computer Win98 is upstairs. Have never set up a Network. I bought an 8 port Nway Switch and all the cables, I am connected to the Internet via @home cable and it is working on the new computer. I connected all the cables (from provider to Switch, from port 1 to new computer, from port 2 to old computer) and proceeded to run the Network Wizard - the 3rd step of the wizard informed me that "other computers cannot connect through the internet through this (host) computer - this computer must have a connection to your network" (undoubtedly there is more to it than that!). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks John

    network

Two things at play here, internet & intranet, Diff of course is intraneting is sharing files & folders! Get this phase done first. Have each of your comps on the same workgroup & have each use the same protocal for the intranet. Have you shared the drives on both comps. Use the wizard on xp comp & when it states make a diskette to use on win98 comp click "yes ", you will haveto have the xp cd in tray. Then applied the install on 98 comp, do the readme!!! You will get it, You may find that the protocal "Netbui" found in win98 is useful. To install this protocal on xp, have the xp cd in tray, rite click my network places/properties select the protocal then add & browse to wixp cd/valuadded/net/networks netbui OK. good luck
