I'm not sure where this should go but...
I have a new machine that I have networked with my old one. Both are XP(old=home, new=pro). The new one is bigger & faster. I would like to copy most of the software from the old machine to the new one. Data files are no problem but I don't know how to copy the applications themselves. Can you guys help me?

    Hi DPI
you can not copy software to a computer. It has to be installed.
you will need the installation disks for the programs.

How about something like easy transfer. That doesn't copy it transfers, I believe.
Can I use it and transfer only the application stuff?

I recently learned about Application Mover (http://www.funduc.com/app_mover.htm) and it worked very well to move my printer software to a different partition (it only allowed me to install it on my operating system partition). That might work for your application, especially if you slave the two hard drives together. "Application Mover is designed to move programs from one path to a different path on the same hard disk or to another hard disk on that same computer." It's free to try and not much to buy, so it might be worthwhile experimenting with.

Easy Transfer will not transfer programs, but it will bring across files and folders relevant to the programs in your user profile, so that when you install the program, it has the way you had the program set up on the old computer. It seems selective in which files or folders it brings across, you can modify transfer files yourself by, say, looking under Local Settings folder in the user's profile.

I didn't know that Easy Transfer could transfer from Windows XP to Windows XP, only XP to Win 7.

Easy Transfer is good at bringing across Windows settings, like Themes, Desktop background, etc.
