I have 2 Pc's at home that are Windows XP. i have both connected to a wireless Netgear router that i got so that i can have the ability to have both Pc's connected to the ISP (comcast).

I want to put them on a network so that I can share an external Maxtor Drive.

I don't know how to connect them into a network. Don't know if I need to give them static IP #'s or what.
    Can someone help me.
    Thanks.
    Bill

Just attach the drive to one of the computers
    Share the drive
    that is all
this may help you to easily set it up
You have a month in the trial period to see how to set it up manually or register the product

You do not need third party applications to get networking working with Windows systems! Don't buy network magic - there is no need.

If your two PC are already connecting to the internet through a single router, it is unlikely that you need to change anything with your TCP/IP addresses. If they weren't working correctly, you wouldn't be able to connect to the internet.

So what you need is to get file and printer sharing up and running.

First work your way through this Microsoft guide:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/homenet.mspx

Then have a look at this guide which gives more detail on the specifics of setting up shares.
