I just installed a new HDD. I am running XP Home. My question is do I need to install all 3 service packs?
I have received a "windows has to shut down" message occasionally. I updated my browser after installing the OS to IE 7.
I am not sure how to describe this but when viewing web pages, they do not scoll smoothly...it is a slow wavy action.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

After you reinstalled XP, did you install the chipset/video card drivers that came with your pc?

You can skip SP1 and and install SP2 then SP3.

No I didn't install those drivers. Double checking so I don't mess up...I have my MB disc...which says "Chipset support CD ". Is this what I use to install those.
    Thanks,
    Colleen

That would be the one...You still might need to install drivers for your video card which should help with the scrolling issue.

Hi colleen. As a side note go into Tools< Internet Options< Advanced tab. Scroll down and under browsing make sure the option that says use smooth scrolling is unchecked. Click ok when done. That will make the scrolling in IE faster and smoother.

Sorry to butt in here, but can you tell me what the purpose of smooth scrolling is? What does it actually do? Windows help wasn't any help.
