I had to get it as I run Drive Image 7. Do you use DI?

I've just rechecked and I had to get version 1.0 SP3, sorry to mislead you.

    Hi all
Well that didn't work out to well :(
After Downloading and installing Net framework a Icon showed up by my clock and said terminating Digital Imaging monator, that was part of HP imaging, The skins part. Made my scanner useless, and I'm guessing a digital camera...if I had one.
Was online with Hp for two days and they finally told me I had to download HP imaging from them...Now get this...345.12 MB. I'm on dial up can any one guess how long it takes to download a 345 MB file on dial up
I told them that this is crazzzzzzzy.....

OK I'll tell, Estamated time 24 hours 30 Min. 24 HOURS

Should have heard my wife when I told her she couldn't use the phone for 24 hours :D
IS WAS NOT PRETTY, Matter of fact it was down right UGLY :D

Any way I have a friend that has DSL and he is going to download and burn it to CD for me.
Hope this fixes it? Will find out next week.

Geri--Sorry to hear the news. That is not normal behavior. If you go back to the Windows Update site you will see a button for Help and Support. Click on it. MS might offer free help.
How did you get HP Imaging in the first place? Isn't it on some CD that came with the scanner?

    Hi welshjim
The software that came with the scanner is Image Zone, HP had software installed on my PC for other digital stuff, Scanners, Cameras and maybe other things that I haven't ran acrossed yet

    I'll check out Windows site.
    Thanks

Geri--Maybe not, but based on what you say the "HP imaging" files should be on the CD that came with your PC. I am disappointed to hear that HP tech support won't help you reinstall. If you knew the location and name of the file on the CD, you should be able to selectively reinstall.
    If not, again sorry.

    Hi welshjin
The only CD that came with this PC was Works and Money.

I had to burn my own recovery CD. It had a program that is set up to run only one time. A window would come up everytime I restarted the computer (I Think) that said I needed to burn my own (and only) recovery CD...In this case a DVD because it would take 8 CD's or 1 DVD.
Why they did it this way?? Your guess is as good as mine.
They never brought up the recovery Disc the whole time I was dealing with them.
I got the computer in Sept. so it is still under warranty so there is no charge for support at this time.

Geri-- Lord knows what you are supposed to do if you ever need to Repair or Reinstall Windows, since in XP you need the Windows CD to do it.
A good reason to stay away from HP PC's??

WOW, I never thought of that. I hope that is part of the recovery disc I made?
The thing is, I bought a HP PC back in 1998 and never had a problem with it for 5 years...Well not until I tried to add a Graphics card to it that a friend gave me, which was not supported by that system I guess.
It also didn't have a windows 98 disc, Just needed my Authenticity number.

I reinstalled the software from the scanner CD 2 or 3 times on directions from HP.
This is what I get when I try to access the scanner software or when I restart my computer.....

    "Could not find a part of the path C:/program files/HP/Digital Imaging/bin/.../skins/HP1/skindef.xml "

    And this...

    C:/Program files/HP/Digital Imaging/skins/HP1/skins.xml Does not exist

I worked on a HP Pavilion 422 last weekend. It had two partitions, a small (5GB) recovery partition and a large (35GB) system partition. There was a program called HP Restore or something like that (I've got a teflon coated memory).

It did however not have the utility to create Recovery Disks but some models were said to have both.

    Anyway, when using "HP Restore ", there were two options;

    - to not format and maintain all user data untouched

    - to do a quick format and loose everything

If You have "HP Restore" and go for the first option, Your computer should be returned to its factory fresh state but with all Your data untouched. You will (hopefully) get Your scanning software back but You will also need to reinstall SP2 and other updates and in addition to that, all "non bundled" programs that You had installed.

    Hi Christer
Thanks I'll look into that I know I have a HP Recovery D: 4.78 GB.
I would hate to loose SP2 It took me about 5 hours to download.

I have a friend making the CD of the file they said I needed. If that don't work :( I guess I won't have a choice.

I'll let everyone know what happens.

I had free hands on that Pavilion and I used both methods, just to try it and hopefully learn. What I learned was that the setup of the partitions were far from the optimum. The recovery partition D: was at the front of the harddisk with the system partition C: after it. Recovery files that were to be used on rare occasions (if ever) occupied the part of the harddisk that has the best performance ...... ...... ! Restoring the system partition took 15-20 minutes.

I convinced the owner of the benefits from using a non OEM operating system and was allowed to buy XP-pro and Norton Ghost. I had a smile on my face when I blew the OEM installation into cyber orbit ...... :D ...... !

The ex-Pavilion now has a C: of 10 GB at the front of the harddisk, a D: of 25 GB for personal data in the middle and a E: of 5 GB for a Ghost Image at the rear. It now takes less than 5 minutes to restore and if he renews the Image according to changes on the system partition, it will "always" be fresh.
