Can I safely delete the Service Pack Files that are in C:\WINNT\Service Pack Files\i386?

You might get into problems if you install a program that requires a stick in your Windows disk.

I didn't need to edit the registry. When I removed SP1 and SP2 uninstall folders, XP on reboot took care of cleaning up the ADD/REMOVE entries, and put them back into ADD/REMOVE when I loaded SP1's uninstall folder back out again to see what would happen. The same occurs if a hotfix uninstall file is removed.

The rules may be different on 2k.

    Regards - Charles

My experience with W2K is limited but I believe that You are discussing two different critters:

Chuck and Ray discuss the ServicePackFiles folder and I agree with Ray that it should be left alone.

Steve and Charles discuss the "ServicePackUnInstall" folder and I agree that it can be deleted if the system has been verified to work properly.
