I found one internet ref indicating this is part of Windows Defender:

    FilePath : C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\
    ProductName : Windows Defender
    CompanyName : Microsoft Corporation
    FileDescription : Service Executable
    InternalName : MsMpEng.exe
LegalCopyright : © Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.
    OriginalFilename : MsMpEng.exe

    Hi Jan,

As a general principle, it did the right thing, namely that a process wants access and warned you about it - nothing wrong with that. Denying it initially is also the correct response until you found out what it was.

Processes can be mimicked by malware, so double checking is the right response. Also if something is benign, but perhaps not necessary, its nice to see that One Care gives you a choice.

So all in all, One Care did its job :)

EDIT: an example of mimicry by malware: http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist_s.htm

Look up Services under S, services.exe - one is is the XP Service execute, the other is a trojan.

    Regards - Charles
