    I have three pc on my lan, On XP as server for internet, other are two clients one running win 2k Pro and one 2 win98.

    Now the problem is that my win2k and win98 has got same hardware configuration on the difference of their speed.. one is cel .. 1 ghz and other is cel. 800 mhz.
    Now Problem is that when i share internet from xp to 2k and also to 98. Win 2k works fine.. but win98 firstly open sites more slowly than win2k secondly in any big site ie. site with more data it frequently shows that connection to server was reseted and the site does not open properly.

    Is this due to distance between server and clients , my win2k machine has got 2m long cable to server and win98 got 2.5 meter long cable to server.

    I have also added the dns server of my isp in properties of my ethernet card.

    Cable distance is fine. And the cpu's on both are plenty fast.

    98FE or 98SE? Do you have the latest version of DUN loaded? Has the 98 PC been cleaned recently (temp files, temporary internet files, cookies, then scandisk & defrag)?

    DUN = Dial Up Networking.

    In addition to the apps needed to operate the modem, they also included updated versions of TCP/IP and other networking components.

    I think 1.4 was the latest release for Win98 and you can still download it from Microsoft. Can't hurt to get a copy and install it. Even if you happen to have the latest version, something may be a little bit dinged up and a new install would replace it.

    Free to do and quick so no downside. Get it from a link on This page.
