I have a Hyper-V server that was offline for a time, and I just brought it back into service. After a couple hours of updates (including SP2) I installed one more update (KB967723) which died with Code 80070490.

This is a server with no local users; I log in to run updates or create VMs on RDP. So no surfing-related malware, no software installed, just a virgin copy of Windows 2008 running Hyper-V in a virtually unused subnet.

I have restarted the server, attempted to reinstall KB967723 several times, always with the same result.

I am aware of this article, but I can't see where re-installing over my OS for every update error is rational - wouldn't I need to reapply all of the updates and service packs again?

I thought there might be a way to apply KB967723 (like we did in the old days) but I can't find it in MS's downloads.

    Any advice?

    So far so good!

Hah! Your search skills far exceed my own.. I forgot to mention I am running x64 but it was easy enough to find that version from your example.

The update installed fine and re-running "Check for updates" removed KB967723 from the list. So far so good!

I won't know if this was a one-off problem or if I can no longer update until another patch is released and I try to install it. I will let you know what happens.

    Thanks for the help Arie

OK. We'll see if this was a one-off.

I was going to wait until another update came down but I guess I can open another thread if the problem persists...
