I have this problem where when i set up a user accound on windows server 2003 that differs when i remotely connect to it, compared to when i access it from a client computer on my network. The client computer connects just basically to all of the local resources it has, but is no where near the same as the desktop you get when u remotely log into that user account. I know its not a very big problem to fix, but i cant get it working so they are the same. So when i log in from a client computer i want to be able to see the same desktop as i do when i remotely connect to that user.

    Thanks

Are you using Terminal Server to connect remotely or Remote Desktop?

Yes i am aware you use the same Remote Desktop client to connect to Terminal Server as you do for plain Remote Desktop, i do it for a living, but even though they use the same login client, there are differences in capabilities and setup.

In either case you wont get the same desktop as remote desktops are optimised for speed and wallpaper is removed in most cases. You can turn it on but it isnt recommended.

Also keep in mind the desktop you are seeing remotely IS NOT coming from the workstation but from the Server. Your desktop etc are setup on the local PC, but you access the Server remotely, not teh workstation. Thats the main reason it is different. You are accessing different PCs.

You also wont have access to the LAN remotely for security reasons. You can print to the LAN printers though.

Anyway a lot depends on what type of remote access you are using so best to get an answer to my first question before i answer any more.

thanks the for the reply...what i want to accomplish is the same as what happens when i set up remote desktop connection for winodws xp pro....when i set that up and log into the computer remotely, it logs me out of my account at home (always leave it running) and logs me in remotely. So what happens is i see the same desktop that i normally would use at home, when i remotely connect in. When i try the same thing in server 2003 and remotely connect to a computer that is already logged in..it doesnt log my account out at home...it stays running and logs into this different account, with none of the same desktop icons, non of the same documents, yet im logged into the same account i would be at home (same username and password)..why does it do this?
