I would do a System Restore to a date prior to doing the AdWare thing AND get rid of RegCure before it completely kills your system. You will find more posts on the net complaining about this piece of Slimeware and in the wrong situation, after it runs the PC is left in a not bootable state, resulting in a complete re-install!

The fact that Panda won't update is a little suspicious. You may wish to try Kaspersky. http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Hi Dana. Try following these steps and see if you notice any change in your computers behavior.

    Please do the following:

    1. Click Start< Control Panel< Add/Remove Programs and uninstall any programs that you dont use
    2. While in the add/remove programs window click the button that says add/remove windows components and uncheck the checkboxes next to Indexing Service, MSN Explorer, Windows Messenger and click ok when you are done.
    3. Disable any Windows Services that you don't need by following Black Vipers Services Guide.
    4. Download and run ATF Cleaner and select all the checkboxes in the program then hit the empty selected button, http://majorgeeks.com/ATF_Cleaner_d4949.html
    5. Run Disk Cleanup, Start< All Programs< Accessories< Sytstem Tools< Disk Cleanup. When its done calculating how much free space you can save make sure you check all the checkboxes except for compress old files.
    6. Click Start< Right Click My Computer and click Properties. Click the advanced tab< Under performance hit settings< click advanced again and under virtual memory click change< Make sure your harddrive is selected and select the option that says system managed size and click the set button. Now Click ok on all the windows to close them out and reboot the computer.
    7. I read the Malware thread and do you still have Regcure installed? If you do then please remove that program because registry cleaners can make your problem worse and offer no benefit to your computer. Read this, Why I don't Use Registry Cleaners.

Let me know if your computer is any faster after performing the above steps. :)

    Hello Evan,

All of your recommendations have been followed except for para 3. I was unsure of the windows services that you were speaking of. Regcure has been removed. It seems that Internet is running more smoothly but audio and video still very bad. It seems that they are buffering all the time. Audio can run in media Player for a few songs without noticing a problem (maybe 5 or 6) but video - as soon as something runs whether in media player or in the internet (news videos etc.) everything slows and "buffers ". We aren't there yet.

    Thanks

    Dana

I "presume" that a Restore was not practical?

Interesting, because the second log that you posted from DDS shows CPs that go back to Feb 11th?

I suggest you go into Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and look at uninstalling programs you don't need.

For example, you seem to have Aliant Security, which seems to have an antispyware, then you have AdAware and Spybot running. Is Windows Defender running? Then I see Windows Live One Care Scanner. If they are all running, it's no wonder your system is working like a slug.

Select one security system, you can have others installed, but don't let them run in the background. For example, turn off Spybot's "Tea-Timer ", disable AdAware from running in the background. Do a manual scan with them occasionally.

If Aliant is running a firewall, make sure Windows Firewall is disabled.

I would uninstall the Google programs, Raxco Perfect Disk and Nero InCD (test and only reinstall them if really think you need to).

    Matt

I definetly agree with Matt. Regarding the Windows Services, if you click the Black Viper Services Guide link he gives you a list of services that can be disabled safely. Check it out since by disabling services it can free up RAM and CPU so your system should be a bit faster.

Hi everybody, It's been a few days. Thanks so far for your help. I am really just a beginner, so I really don't know how to do most of the above suggestions. Can someone please help.

I don't think I have Defender running and I have removed some programs but thats about all.

I have included a list of running processes from Spybot. Will this help?

    Thank You
