I have built a new pc (not all parts are new) and when I switch on I get a series of beeps - I think that this means the memory on the graphics card has a problem - does this mean throw it away and get a replacement? Or can this type of problem ever be mended?

    TIA

    Hi,
If as I suspect the bios is Ami the number of beeps gives a diagnosis of the problem. There used to be a web site called "Wim's Bios Page" which gave a full list of the faults associated with a particular beep sequence , in my limited experience it could be one of many things , graphics card not seated properly (try resiting in another slot) , memory not seated properly (try removing and re-setting) , CPU not seated properly , or aa fault on any one of these components , usually a bit of fiddling solves the problem.

    Thanks

The problem is the gfx card - a different one works fine. I assume the failing gfx card is fried and useless - even though it is unused?

I guess that you have enough evidence to blame the graphics card , all that remains to be absolutely certain is to try the card in another machine, it may be just incompatible with the motherboard you have.
