Netscape 7.2 mail has worked perfectly since installed about 18 months ago.
1 week ago it has begun the curious problem that when I send an email it goes through all the motions, coonects to the mail server, sends the mail, reports the mail has been sent succesfully, the dialup connection shows bytes being sent, the modem shows TD activity, the email is shown in the sent box, but it never arrives at the recipients end.
I have tested the PC using Netscape 4.79 and Outlook Express both of them work perfectly and the email arrives, All settings are correct and identical in all 3 programs. I have run Registry Mechanic, all ok, Virus scans all ok, Spyware Doctor scans clean.
Does anyone have any ideas please.

Is it just one or two people not getting the mail or is it everyone?

What happens if you send a mail to yourself?

Every email I send from 7.2 disappears.

I have tried to send to myself and same result, my ISP has tried all they can think of, when I sent them test emails 3 one from each of the mail programs 2 arrived the 7.2 did not. same result when I send to myself.

    Welcome to the Forum, lionelo!

    lionelo,

You may have checked all this with your ISP, however if you don't mind, let's check your settings again.

    Open Mail & Newsgroups
Click on: Edit | Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings | Server Settings
Click on the "Advanced" tab at the lower right of the Window
Click on the drop down menu and select: Always use default server

Check the Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings to see if the "Use Name and Password" is enabled. Although it may not cause any apparent problem, there is no logical reason for enabling, as a password is requested when you log on, and not when you are sending mail.
Now Click on the Advanced tab in the Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings
    Remove any duplicate server entries.

Also ensure that "Use Secure Connection (SSL)" is disabled.

    Next:
    Close Netscape and Quick Launch
    Open WordPad
    Click on File | Open
Select the prefs.js file which is located in your *.slt folder

Once prefs.js is open scroll down to this script:
    user_pref( "mail.smtpservers ", "smtp1,smtp1,smtp1 ");

Remove the duplicates in the "smtp1,smtp1,smtp1" string so it would become:

    user_pref( "mail.smtpservers ", "smtp1 ");

Let us know if these are your settings. If so, then there are a few other workarounds we can try.

    Hi,

This script only has the single entry,
    user_pref( "mail.smtpservers ", "smtp1 ");

everything else is set as it should be and matches what you have suggested.

In the prefs.js file there is some references to my ISP before they changed their name, I have just corrected those entries to the correct ISP reference, tried sending again to my self and a cc to another mail address, same result, no joy!

Do you have any other thoughts I can try.

    Thanks

    lionelo,

    Close Netscape
    Open Windows Explorer
Delete the Sent.msf file from the Mail Account Folder.

Open Mail & Newsgroups and compact your folders
    Now try to send...

    If no joy:

    Open Netscape
Create a new Folder in your Mail Account
Move all Sent messages to the newly created folder
    Close Netscape

    Open Windows Explorer
Delete both the Sent folder, and the Sent.msf folder
    Try to send

    Let us know the results.

    Ramona,

Still no joy with these settings.

I do not know if it is of any use to you but I do not have all these folders etc in windows partition, they are all in a separate partition, but have been from the first time I installed 7.2. I have noticed it also has a separate prefs.js in the folder on the separarate partition under both the default user and my account.

I have it set up on another box as of yesterday and it works perfect, but not on the main PC.

The prefs.js is very different on the second box even though I have set it up exactly the same.

    Lionelo,

    Close Netscape
Rename the prefs.js file to Xprefs.js in the problem partition
    REopen Netscape
Copy the prefs.js file from the other PC which works perfectly, and paste it into the problem *.slt folder.
Does this make a difference in sending?

If this doesn't work, then I would create a new Profile.

    Let us know what develops.
