A laptop that I have recently been assigned to use while at work has a very sensitive "F" key. When typing with your hands in place on the home row, putting just a tiny bit of pressure on the "F" key causes several "f''s" to appear in the text. The laptop is a Panasonic Toughbook. I am wondering if there is some setting I could adjust to help this, or is it a mechanical issue. I hesitate to report it to our IT staff, because they are so overworked, I would probably lose use of the laptop for several months while it waits for repair.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Bucksone, I don't know what OS you have but try going into the Control Panel, Keyboard and adjusting the Repeat delay and Repeat Rate settings.

Turn the laptop upside down and blow the keyboard keys with compressed air. See if you get a lot of debris falling out.

or spritz some club soda around the f key and click the key vigorously in case there is some dried sugar from a sweet beverage in there.

JohnB, The operating system is XP Pro. I tried your suggestion but it didn't help. The problem seems to be a sensitivity issue. Just barely touching your finger on the top of the key causes it to activate. The other keys don't do this.
Bmoore1129, I will try your suggestion tonight when I get to work.

    Thanks.

Hi Bucksone, sorry that didn't work, I would suggest you go with BMoore's suggestion as it sounds like you may have some crud under the keys. Let us know how you make out.:)

Well, unfortunately, BMoore's suggestion didn't help. Nothing fell out of the keyboard, and the problem still exists. fI'm starting to think that I need to teach myself to type wifthout having my left index finger resting ofn fffthe keyboardf.

In case it isn't obvious, I'm typing this using the laptop in question. ffffFI'm still open fto sufggestions.
