I have a problem. I want to give some pictures to a lady who has a new IMac. She doesn't know how to open attachments, nor does she understand zipping and un zipping. She asked me to take some pictures for her, but I can't even put them on a floppy and hand it to her. The two systems are not compatable. Could her machine recognise a cd rom? I doubt it if it can't read a floppy.I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Couldn't you just email them to her?

Sadly, the procedure for opening a file on a floppy is similar to opening an email attachment (double clicking), so unless your friend is willing to learn how to do one, she'll have a hard time doing the other. Macs can read jpg format...which stands to reason since jpg is a common picture format used on web sites.

To transfer files from a PC to a Mac, quoted from http://www.macinstruct.com/contest/trans/ (with a little editing for clarity):
"1) Copy the file onto the disk like you would normally with the PC.

    2) Insert the disk into the Mac.

    3) Copy the file from the PC disk to the Mac. It should have an icon that says "PC ".

    4) If double clicking on the file doesn't open it, double click on Stuffit Expander then go to File: Expand, and select the file. Click OK and the file will decompress into something usable on your Mac. "

    no floppy drive

I don't think new imacs have floopy dirves You will probable want to write the photos to cd. But what good are they going to be she can't double click the to view them or are you going over there and open them ever time she wants to see them.

Ooops...I forgot that Apple decided floppy drives have no place in the wonderful world of iMacs.

However, there is another way which just occurred to me. Put the pics on a website and send her the URL.

There are several free web hosting services. Yahoo offers free space to post a "photo album." Geocities and Tripod provide free web site space. I'm sure there are others.
