    Troops:

Suppose I want to send a cartoon to a friend. I paste the cartoon into
WORD97 and send it as an attachment to a letter using Eudora.

My friend gets the attachment and sees only a superimposed red square, blue triangle and green elipse in the received attachment.

Can someone tell me what is lacking in the transmission or, better yet, tell me how to insure a graphic figure can be transmitted?

Don't embed graphics in a word doc for sending by email, just paste the image directly into the email. To view a doc w/ an image in it one needs:
    1. word installed or
    2. graphics converters for word installed or
    3. a program that can open word docs w/ embedded images. (openoffice, lotus, etc) and
    4. must have his email app configured not to block attachments

If sending using outlook express, just use the Attach button or Atttach menu item and browse for the image to attach, no need to use word at all for this. Or paste directly into an html message.
