When I click on send page by email in Internet explorer with Microsoft Outlook 2003 as my email browser I get "operation failed ".

If I change my default email broser to Outlook Express it works - put Outlook back & it fails.

Have tried everything I know to no avail.

    Reset IE
    Repaired both
    Change default back & forward

Searched everywhere & all references seem to be for Outlook Express & not Outlook.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Quentin--Have you looked in IE Tools|Internet Options|Programs tab? What program is chosen for E-Mail? If OE, click the drop down arrow and change to Outlook.

    Hi Welshjim

Yes it's already set for Outlook as default.

Have tried switching from Outlook to OE & back again without success.

Spent many hours looking for solutions Y& trying different things.

Quentin--Hopefully someone with more knowledge of Outlook will respond.
Just a couple of thoughts. (I do not run Outlook, so I do not know what settings are available to you.)
When you click File|Send|Page as Email, are both OE and Outlook open?
If yes, what happens when only Outlook (or neither) is open?

Doesn't make any difference either way.

    Thanks

    Problem solved!

Seems Outloook is not closing properly.

Went into Task manager / processes & found up to 5 instances of Outlook.exe running , even though it had been closed.

Manually deleted all instances & problem goes away.

Only problem is this isn't permanent - the problem keeps recurring.

Oh well, at least I know how to solve my initial problem.

Try to un-install/re-install Outlook. Set Internet Options so that access to Outlook Express is denied(you can always set it back). This might remove any conflicts.

Have done all this - uninstall / reinstall / set default - to no avail.

Outlook just doesn't want to close properly - leaving multiple instances showing in Task Manager.

Delete them & all is fine , until the next time, that is.

    This is from this page.
I did a search in Google's groups for this. It seems to be a problem for quite a few people. Click

I haven't tried Google Groups before - use Google a lot though.

That information is spot on - will have to investigate more & use Google groups in future - Thanks

A lot more common a problem than I thought - so it seems

You're welcome. Hope you're able to run it down. And, yes, the Google groups are a great source for help. If I need an answer to something I'll search them first. Only problem is that there seems to be quite a few where people don't post back and let you know how or whether they got the problem fixed. Just have to put up with it I guess. :)

Yes, it only benefits everyone to post back when their problems are resolved.

This is a common problem on ALL message boards.
