Does anyone know if it is possible to set Microsoft Word up in such a way that one would have a choice of Printers when printing, rather than having to select a Default Printer prior to printing.

    Many Thanks.

If you hit the print icon the default printer is used.

If you go File > Print you have a dropdown list from which you can select a printer.

Is this what you are after?

    Thank you for the reply.

I was actually wondering if there was some way to set it up so that when the Icon is selected, one would still get a choice of printers, rather than the default.

    In Word 2003 ....

    View > Toolbars > Customize > Commands - File
Scroll down to Print and select the first Print button of the two and drag it to your toolbar and Close. You could then lose the other Print button on the toolbar - just drag it into the right hand window of the dialogue box above.

When you hit this button it brings up the dialogue box seen under File > Print, which I think is what you are after?

Unless Word uses a different type of printer applet than other programs you should be able to select it like Pete said. Click the down arrow to the right of the box that shows the printer being used. Then click on the printer in the list that you want to use. If the applet is one like the one when you print a web page in IE, click on the icon for the printer you want to use (so it's highlighted).

    I may be guessing

I have found that it may depend on where you select " PRINT "

I just check right here and if I just go to the toolbar and select Print it just prints.

If I go up to the upper left corner and select " FILE " then Select print from the dropdown menu I get a window giving me the choice of the HP 5850 or the HP 5550.

You should also get a choice of ALL or Selection ( if you have made same )

I also get a selection for " Print Preview "

I have not found any place yet that this did not work.

This also backsup what others mention.
