Hello. Can someone help? I am on a corporate XP computer. I stored a whole bunch of pictures to the folder which is mapped to a networked drive. After synchronization, all my files were deleted from the network and, subsequently, from the C drive as well. I am trying to restore them.

I used the PC Inspector File Recovery tool, and I see the CSS folder with the deleted files in folders d1-d8. All names are in HEX. If I restore a file and rename it to proper extension, the file doesn't open.

    Questions:
    1. Is there an easier way to restore from the deleted offline files?
    2. If not, after the restore, how can I identify extensions and be able to view the files (pictures being the primary concern?)

    Thank you for your help!!

Since this is in a corporate environ, can you get the IT people to do a restore of the files from a backup. I used to be able to do restores of folders or files from backups.

PC Inspector will retain the extension of recovered files. make sure your computer has extensions visible. Folder Options > View Tab > uncheck "hide extensions for known file types ".

If you cannot open & view a file that was recovered, even with its assigned hex name by PCIFR, then the file was not completely recovered.
