    Windows Vista Home Premium has installed KB936181 successfully 10 times and counting, prompts me for a reboot and says it needs to be installed again. Of course this must mean the install wasn't successful? Am I correct?

    How can I stop this loop?

    Hi,

    Welcome to WindowsBBS.

    No, it doesn't mean an unsuccessful install. It could just be a detection failure.

    To verify the install, go to http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms07-042.mspx and expand Security Update Deployment, expand Windows Vista (all editions) and expand File Information. Find your Vista edition & verify the files.

    I went to the link you mentioned but I think had already done everything listed It is now listed 13 times as successful, bu *** is not in my list of installed updates. After several attempts at downloading it directly from MS, I finally installed it manually/ It only gave me the options to repair, modify or remove. First I repaired Then it did not appear in my installed updates. Then I removed and reinstalled. It still sits in my list of available updates. I am still in this endless loop.

    Someone else is having the same issue as noted in the microsoft support forum but the article they are directed to is of no help;

    I posted the link so you could manually inspect the file versions to confirm weather or not the update was installed successfully.
