    Hi all,

I've been having problems with the Recycle Bin not showing deleted files, but in the Status Bar at the bottom it will say 10 Objects and the Desktop icon shows there's stuff in it.

I did a lot of digging and tried several things (i.e., attrib -h -s -r, etc.) but nothing seems to work.

When I checked out "Recycler ", I clicked on Advanced Security Settings and found 9 entries with several repeats. Yet in other Security Settings for different folders there's only 3, 4, or 5, entries. Some are "<not inherited>" and some are "C:\ ".

Do I need all these repeated Permission Entries "? If not, what's the safest way to get rid of them?

I would not play with those security settings as they are undoubtedly needed.

The question I would ask though is .....

Have you deleted files from an external drive which is not currently plugged in? If so plug in and power up the drive - then look in the Recycle bin.

    Hi Pete,

I have 2 internal drives: My "Baby" and my "Break Me ". I booted to the second drive and the behavior of the Recycle Bin is the same on both drives. Also, the Security mess is the same on both drives. I have hooked up additional drives as slaves over the years, could that be it? Newly deleted files stay visible for a few days, but then they disappear.

Now that I think about it, maybe those extras came from all the SP2 install failures. I remember having to boot to CMD and doing a bunch of del - ren - copies; maybe when doing the repairing, more Permission entries got added?

@broni — That's the first thing I did before I tried the other stuff.

Go to command prompt, and run this command:
    rd /s /q c:\recycler
Restart computer, and the Recycle Bin will be recreated.

If the above doesn't work, run this:
    cacls c:\recycler /t /e /g Administrators:f
    and then:
    rd /s /q c:\recycler
    Restart computer.

    Hi broni,

The first cmd you posted, I did. Didn't help. However, I haven't seen the second one so I'll give that a try. Thanks :)

I'm thinking that having so many repeats and listings in the Security Settings might be a contributor; nobody knows what to do.

I think my bestest bet is to break out my new 120GB HD and start fresh "” although making all those registry tweaks again ( a lot I don't even remember now since I've been making them for 5 years now) is going to be a pain.

As long as I've got you here, any idea as to how to disable ctrl hot\sticky key from turning off my monitor if I hit it twice? I need once, but not twice.

    New Info

    Hi all,

I found out what the problem is with the Recycle Bin. Now all I need is a solution.

Anyway, I had about 10 files in the Recycle Bin on my main HDD(0). Today I booted to my second HDD(1) and clicked Recycle Bin and it showed the contents for about 2 seconds; then everything disappeared.

So, I rebooted back to my main HDD and the icon shows stuff being in there, but when I click it, nothing shows up.

Ideas on how to get it to show the files? Or, does booting to the second drive do something to the Recycle Bin?
