With NS7.2, I'm wondering how does one get the password manager NOT to show passwords w/o prompting for the master password first?

I thought that was the idea behind a master password... I don't want just anyone who starts up my 'puter and NS to have access to my passwords... I'm the only one who uses this 'puter for the most part so I don't have any multiple users set up or a logon password... just need protection for some things.

    Hi Dreambird,

You have to do a bit of hacking, but it can be done:

    Close Netscape (including Quick Launch).
In C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\chrome, view the contents of
comm.jar via WinZip (rename the file comm.jar.zip).
    Back up comm.jar first.

Open the file \content\communicator\wallet\SignonViewer.xul in Notepad.
    Search for this:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    <button id= "togglePasswords "
    oncommand= "TogglePasswordVisible(); "/>
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

    Remove it.
    Save SignonViewer.xul in C:\content\communicator\wallet\ .
Add the saved file to comm.jar and *make sure the file path is
maintained*. This should replace the existing file within comm.jar.

    That should do it.

I don't like the idea of the Passwords being so easily available either, and I use this edit myself.

Thanks Ramona... that did the trick!
Just got a chance to try it today since my cable modem went *poof** Sat. morning... had to wait til today for someone to bring me a new one and then the thing that sets provisions for the new one was down all afternoon...

Anyway... no more passwords showing, much more comfortable with it this way.

    Hi Dreambird,

Yes, I totally agree! I don't really like those passwords being so available. Better to disable that feature altogether. Glad it worked for you.

    Cheers!
