Hi! I'm trying to d/l 7.1 to my p.c.( win98se, newest free zonelabs) but keep getting an error that says because of my security settings, I can't download it. Any idea what I need to change? I'm using ns4.72 to download with. Thanx in advance.

    Welcome to the Forum, fp2nc!

    Hi fp2nc,

Check your settings in Zone Alarm:

Try lowering Trusted Zone security to medium.
Disengage the Internet lock, if engaged.

Go through all the settings to see if you have inadvertently changed a setting that is causing this problem.

    Ramona :)

Thanks for replying! I checked ZA and settings are where you suggested. I am still getting the same message when trying to d/l. Would it do any good to try to d/l from a different site?

    fp2nc,

Try this site, and see if the same thing happens. If it does, then disable Zone Alarm and try downloading.

    Is this a d/l for 7.0 or 7.1?

Big fat double DUH!!! Might be nice if I gave you the link...

    http://sillydog.org/narchive/sd/71.html

It's for Netscape 7.1, and if you do a "Custom" install you can select which components you like. That is, if you are able to download.

That does help. Before I try again, I read that 7.1 might not work well on win98se or is it just on the first win98( something about resources )? I don't want to d/l and set myself up for more problems.

I went to the link you gave me and saw that was where I read about the resource leak. I looked at the problem link and the work-around link and both seem to be about a year old. Has anything changed since then or do you think I should d/l 7.02 instead?

    fp2nc,

Nothing has changed, and if you want my suggestion for a browser, then I suggest Mozilla 1.6. This is a very stable browser, fast, and doesn't have the resource leak. Or if you want to wait, AOL plans a new Netscape release in early summer, which will be based on Mozilla 1.7 code.

    Ramona :)
