    Hi all,

Please forgive me if I sound a little rusty at explaining things. I will try my best.

For the past 6 months we have had a desktop and a laptop connected via a router so we can both access the internet. We are with AOL. Up until this point we have had no problems accessing any websites IE internet banking, paypal, or any other secure websites. A few days ago the desktop user tried to access paypal and although he was able to get onto the homepage he cannot get into the logon page. The same happens with me on my laptop. I also am unable to access internet banking or paypal. Other sites that were previously accessible are also now not showing. It shows as searching but never loads.

We have tried all the usual troubleshooting solutions such as clearing temporary internet files, clearing the browser cache, resetting the SSL state (can't remember if thats the exact term), and any other suggested solution.

I initially thought it must be something to do with AOL as it was affecting both computers connected via our Netgear router, however the desktop user says he remembers windows defender being on screen some time last week and wondered if that was something to do with it. He is on XP and I am on Vista.

Another friend was here yesterday and also thouht it was AOL to blame as he tried to access the secure sites via a proxy and they worked.

I apologise for the lengthy post but after much hair pulling out, and computer rage I thought I should ask more experienced and knowledgeable people in the hope someone can help!

    Many thanks!

I would read the "sticky" posts in the Removing Malware forum here and then post there. It could be that you have malware that's attempting to steal passwords or secure info. Don't get alarmed, this is just a probability and should be investigated.
