secondary IDE controller failing

    I have a sis 5513 dual pci IDE controller and the secondary IDE controller keeps showing a yellow exclamation mark and my cdr and cdrw dives no longer exist.If I remove the 5513 the drives will come back after the computer reinstalls the 5513.When the cdr drive comes back the drive letter has been changed.This works for awhile and then it happens again.Help please.
    win 98se 400mhz 7.85g IBM Aptiva 2170-811 256ram irq secondary 15 primary 14.IRQ 14& 15 shared with sis 5513 dual pci ide controller.

    I have experienced similar wierd happenings. Has anyone responded with assistance? My problem got straightened out once by fiddling with BIOS setup, but reappeared and neither CD-rom or CD-RW works now.

    I did a complete recovery and everything is fine.
