Search won't find text

I'm doing a search on a file and it finds it FINE in several places, BUT when I put ANYTHING in the "A word or phrase in the file" input box, it no longer finds any files (something as simple as the letter 'a' doesn't even work and I KNOW that letter is in the files).

I've checked and 'Case Sensitive' is OFF in the search. Can't see anything else that wouldn't allow it to find the text?

Anyone else have this happen?

The search function in XP is less than optimal. I've read that this was delibrately done by MS.

Use AgentRansack http://www.agentransack.com/default.aspx
Its free and is very good.

Optimal is one thing, but not to find a word you KNOW is there??
I was searching for the word 'fast' in a config file. When I just searched for the file, it found the it 7 times, then when I added the text search for 'fast' which I KNEW was in at least one file (opened it and did a notepad search for it), it didn't even find that file!

Did they fall down some stairs whilst they were coding the new search?

Trust MS to break one of the few things that used to work.

How will I ever trust them again?
