    Still fighting windoze xp-home sp1

I give up, how do you set the VIEW so that the results of a search will display in the "DETAIL" view. I must have something set wrong, as the results keep reverting to the "Tile" view for the search results. Other directories display as they should ( Details View)

    Thanks for any assistance

I think you may need a Registry edit to correct that. The following two keys are the heart of it.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam

They normally have a default value of 400. You can change that to a higher value and Windows will remember more folder settings.

To modify the registry to have more than 400 settings, go to Run, Regedit and highlight the first key (Shell), then Edit, New-Key-DWORD Value. Name this item "BagMRU Size" (without quotation marks, but with a space between BagMRU and Size). Double-click BagMRU Size, give it a Decimal value of 2000, then click OK.
Repeat the operation for the second key (ShellNoRoam)

I don't remember where I got this info but I know that I used it and it worked.

In the long run, you really should get AgentRansack and forget all about XP Search tool. You'll be amazed at how much faster and thorough AR is and it's totally free. XP is so clumsy and you can never really be sure you had it set to search all files properly. Then it always defaults to searching all drives, which is a drag to change every time.

Get AgentRansack here. Believe me, you'll wonder how you ever did without it!

I completely agree. I don't remember the last time I used WE for a search and Agent Ransack automatically displays results in the layout you want. It just does so lots faster than WE and with lots more available options. It's a free utility too.

    Surferdude2 & Newt,

Thank you both for your reply.
I do not use Windoze Exploder for anything, I am just trying to figure out how the Darn thing works ( very poorly IMHO).

    For file management I use:
    TotalCommander

I will look at AgentRansack, but at present am pretty happy with TC.

    Thanks again for the info.

    regards:captjlddavis
