search on the side is opening as a page

For years when I click on the "search" in I.e., on the left side of the page opens a search page. With less then 1/4 of the screen the "search" part, that little bit was the whole search page. Click on a link, it opens in the big page.
All of a sudden, from 2 days a go on, when I click on search, the search part is a whole webpage. Search for something, the page opens in the little page on the left. What happened? How can I fix it? Thank you, Chris.

Hi when you open your search page look for the title search at the top. Right click on this it gives you the option of setting the search page to a new window.However as you might, at this stage not see what I am referring to, go to Tools/ Internet options /Programs and click on reset web settings.

 

I think I clicked on "New" on top of the search page. It wen back to the way it was. Thank you very much.
