Windows Vista Search in Vista show "old" removed files - why? Indexation problems?

    Hi,
I started out with a music folder that held both the "*.wma" versions and the ".mp3" version of my music numbers.

I moved all my "*.wma" music files from the combined folder to a separate folder in order to create two separate and clean folders containing either ".wma" files or "*.mp3" files.

To be absolutly sure I have removed all my ".wma" files from the previous combined folder, I ran a search session on the previous combined folder, which by now should only contain "*.mp3" files.

To my great surprise the result of the search session showed that all the "*.wma" files that I had just removed, were still in the combined folder.

When I right clicked on an arbitrary "'*.wma" music file and asked for "open file location" the previously combined folder would open, however no ".wma" music file was found.

I have a sneaky suspicion, that it has something to do with Vistas way of indexing files.

Any suggestions why old removed files keeps pupping up at their previous location after removal?

    Thanks in advance
    Jan

Yes, the Indexing Service needs some time to update its records. The time frame may vary from system to system.

You can rebuild the Search Index:

    1. In Vista's Start Search box type control srchadmin.dll, press Enter
    2. In the Indexing Options window, click Advanced
    3. When the User Account Control prompt appears, click Continue
    4. To rebuild the Search index, click the Rebuild button under Troubleshooting
    5. You have to OK the action after a warning message
