Using Seamonkey 1.1.16, When I go to this web site at:...
    http://i.usatoday.net/tech/graphics/iss_timeline/flash.htm

    I get the following notice:.......
To view this presentation, you need to install the Flash plug-in
    GET IT NOW

Well, I got the flash plugin at:.... http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Saved the file to the H/D and then used RUN to install it.

Seamonkey still gives me the notice:... To view this presentation, you need to install the Flash plug-in
    GET IT NOW

I went to the:.. http://i.usatoday.net/tech/graphics/iss_timeline/flash.htm web site with both Firefox and IE and both played the program.

Anyone got any ideas why Seamonkey 1.1.16 won't play the file when FF and IE do.

Under Seamonkey HELP it is showing the Adobe Flash plugin is installed with a file extension of SWF

Did you have this problem with prior versions of SeaMonkey?

Well, I don't really know. I been using Seamonkey since version 1.0.0 and it usually works with most everything FF or IE does.

Appears, the subject link is on the newspaper site of USA Today.

And since the International Space Station was just completed with this last Space Shuttle Flight. I assume they put together a new flash file to show the segments of how and when the SS was assembled into what it is today.

I am making a bad attempt to explain this flash file has to be brand new.

But, that don't matter I reckon because it does play with FF and IE.

Well I just got smart, My wife has my old computer and I don't get too concerned with keeping it up dated and it still has SM 1.1.9 installed and I just now checked the link using her computer and SM 1.1.9 and got the exact same results as I am getting with SM 1.1.16

So, I think it is safe to say this particular site (Flash File) would not work with any version of Seamonkey

    Thanks, Ray

I have always had this problem with SeaMonkey (all versions). Some financial sites will not display data because SM does not have Flash installed.
I keep trying to install it but nothing seems to work.
The authorities should be told about this and tell us how to fix it!

It doesn't work for me. It says I need a plug in, and when I click to get it, nothing comes up.

I have that, and I installed it some time ago. It just doesn't work with SM.

Ramona, YES, the above link works fine and this is why I had a little trouble answering Ken when I said "I really don't know" (if I had trouble with other sites) because normally you go click click click and don't pay a lot of attention and in most all cases things work with Seamonkey.

And that is why I explained the USA Today, Flash file is brand new

When It came up and told me I need a flash plugin, I thought it was nuts because I thought I already had a Flash Plugin and I'm sure I did. but, I went through the process anyway to no avail.

I'm figuring the USA Today file has something in it Seamonkey don't like and there in lies the problem which is what I was attempting to say previously.

    Thanks, Ray

    Greetings All,

    Very strange indeed.

    Using:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.21) Gecko/20090403 SeaMonkey/1.1.16 - not Firefox/3.0.1

    With Plugin:
    File name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32.dll
    Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124

Ramona is correct, no need for the plugin (NPSWF32.dll) to be in plugins folder....

    The site:
    http://i.usatoday.net/tech/graphics/iss_timeline/flash.htm

Displays correctly.... (shows space station graphic).

As does the site mentioned by Ramona.....

So it must be something else - Perhaps 'cause I am not using the LATEST flashplayer or.....

    Please try the following:

    1. Open config editor.
    2. Filter on "extra" (without quotes)
    3. Right click on "general.useragent.extra.seamonkey" - modify
    4. add "- not Firefox/3.0.1" (again without quotes)

    So the value reads:

    SeaMonkey/1.1.16 - not Firefox/3.0.1

Close SM and re-open - try site and let me know if it works.

    HTH

    Folks,

I been doing a little detective work and as I come to suspect after my initial posting, The problem we are experiencing has nothing to do with the Flash file or in this case what is a SWF file.

The problem is with in the HTML coding of the page which plays the Flash or SWF file.

As most of you probably know you can save a single web page or the pages complete with images, etc.

I saved the subject web page complete with both IE and FF to different folders on my hard drive.

If your not aware, when saving pages complete, IE and FF save the pages totally differently and also revise the HTML coding within a page depending on the file name you choose and a few other factors that frankly I don't fully understand.

I saved the pages to see if I could find what it was Seamonkey did not like about the HTML coding.

After saving it to my H/D I discovered that Seamonkey worked with the files Firefox saved but, would not work with the files IE saved.

Now like I said, FF and IE save the files differently and even modifies the coding during the save so, what ever FF changed in the coding. Seamonkey likes and you can see the subject flash file work with Seamonkey by going to http://www.raysmyth.net/00-ff1/ff1.html

PLEASE NOTE:... you will need to grab the side bar and scroll down about one full screen because like I said the code is modified and why it is doing this I don't know. FF also has to be paged down but, when viewed on my H/D it is not required. Again this is some little quirk in the HTML coding.

The IE save is at http://www.raysmyth.net/00-ie1/ie1.html --- However, IE won't even work with it's own save because apparently the way it saves the files it doesn't like it after putting them on my web site.

I did try to remove part of the coding from the IE save to see if I could make it work with Seamonkey.

After an hour or two I gave up finding the problem in the coding but, whatever FF did to the HTML coding met with Seamonkey's approval as you can see.

I'm not going to worry about this one page not working because I don't see it as any thing wrong with Seamonkey. SM just demands a perfectly coded web page and I'm for Seamonkey. -- Ha

Thanks be to you all, Ray

Well No Sir, --- Two Reasons

    1. I don't know how to get to the Config Editor.

    2. I think it is in the coding else why will it now play on my web site using SM.

I will however, be most happy to try the Config Editor as you suggested.

Seems, like you put something in the URL box on the browser. but, I done forgot what that is.

Thanks, Captain and let me know on the Config Editor, I'll learn something.

config:editor = "about:config" (without quotes) in the url bar (location bar)

    1. Open config editor.
    2. Filter on "extra" (without quotes)
    3. Right click on "general.useragent.extra.seamonkey" - modify
    4. add "- not Firefox/3.0.1" (again without quotes)

    So the value reads:

    SeaMonkey/1.1.16 - not Firefox/3.0.1

Capt. Davis -- Your a genius - I added the - "not Firefox/3.0.1" and it made Seamonkey work with the subject USA Today File.

Interestingly enough, after adding the "not Firefox/3.0.1" I wanted to see if it still worked with the www.raysmyth.net/00-ff1/ff1.html which was the saved file from Firefox mentioned in another posting and now it doesn't work at that link.

    But, that doesn't matter.

One more thing, your item "2. Filter on "extra" ---- I didn't find any Filter listed in the about:config listing. I had a lot of Fonts among the "F's" but no "Filter "

Is the Filter "extra" bit suppose to be among the list at about:config or is there something else I don't know.

Thanks for solving the mystery of why Seamonkey would not play the flash file at: http://i.usatoday.net/tech/graphics/iss_timeline/flash.htm

Because adding the - not Firefox/3.0.1 to the line you indicated sure did the trick.

    Ray,

In config editor, there is a Long White Space near the top, with "Filter" at the left side....

enter the term that you want to search for there.

    See here

    Yeah, yeah, Eureka, it works!!!
OK Captain, Very Good. What are you actually doing? Is the filter set for FF and you are adjusting it for SM? How did you ever figure this out?

    Flash Player Uninstaller

This really doesn't apply to the problems that Ray and Bob have been having, but I think it's worth a mention.

I don't use SeaMonkey, and never have, but some months ago I was having a devil of a time trying to use the Flash Player with whatever version of FF was current at the time ... I kept getting the same message Ray mentioned in his initial post:
To view this presentation, you need to install the Flash plug-in
    GET IT NOW
I kept installing and reinstalling the latest version of Flash Player, but nothing worked.

Then I discovered the Flash Uninstaller program. Once I began using the Uninstaller to uninstall the Flash Player before trying to upgrade it, my Flash Player problems ceased.

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for the info. We ate at Fifth Season on Sunday, right in your neighborhood. Have you tried it? It was very good.
Why were there sooo many motorcycles in town on Sunday? It was like a onvention!
