I recently noticed that when I do a cold boot, sometimes the boot stalls with about 1/3 of the icons on the desktop. I have to hold the power button to turn off and then restart. When I looked at the event log, apparently the stall occurs when Seamonkey is being loaded with the startup programs. I had checked that option in SM under preferences so it would start faster. I wonder if anyone else has encountered this problem, or if it is a known problem with SM? I am using the next to last version of SM and have not yet upgraded to the most recent version.

The present versions are 1.0.8 and 1.1.1 (either one). I don't think that the version is the problem. They, actually, start up faster than Firefox, and having two versions, I don't want to confuse things by using Quick Launch.
If Quick Launch is enabled ( and, I think it is), disable it.

    ackerberg,

You don't need to start SeaMonkey on startup. I would disable it in msconfig, and keep your startup as clean as possible. I don't believe it will make any difference in starting the program.

You most likely know how to run msconfig, but if not:
    Click on: Start | Run
    Type: msconfig
    Click on: Startup
    Disable/remove tick from: SeaMonkey
You will be prompted to restart your PC after you click on the "Apply" tab.

I was not sure what he meant by loading on startup. Of course, it is unnecessary. I thought he meant Quick Launch.

In preferences in SeaMonkey you can choose to have SM in the startup programs. I choose to do that and SM is one of the startup programs whichI can stop with MS config or uncheck in preferences.

Where is this preference? I can see reference to "startup" in Appearance, and Navigator. Then there is the default program button, or the Quick Launch in Advanced. I don't a clue where or which are the setting which you mentioned. Nor what you want to do.

Look at the last item of the Edit Drop down Menu.

    Bob,

Do you want to disable SeaMonkey from Windows Startup? It will have no effect on SM starting any faster.

We may have solved the mystery if some complete paths would be given. The last item of the Edit menu is Preferences. Most items in the category list, on the left side have drop down menus. This is what I was referring to.
But, I agree with Ramona, the startup does not improve speed. Quick Launch, in Edit|Preferences|Advanced will speed up loading of the program, but nothing more.
