Alright so I got a 4 GB SD card that I was told to format with a program called SDFormatter. Well I used it and it shrunk the space on my card to less than 1 GB. I tried formatting it again with every option the program has and nothing changes. Can someone help?

From what I read SD Formatter is not to be used on SD cards over 1GB in size. Also this program and some readers have an issue with formatting the entire card. I would try another formatting utilty.

Well I tried both programs mentioned here but neither worked. Are there any other options?

Is your reader SDHC capable? Did you try the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool? Is your card a Sandisk?

The card is a Transcend 4 GB non-HC so it should be compatible. It's also in FAT format. And I did try the HP USB Formatting Tool with pretty much every option possible. FAT, FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, etc. All of them either left the capacity the same or lost a little bit of space that I could get back by reformatting it back to FAT.

I would guess that it is a problem with the card reader not able to format beyond 1GB.

Thanks that was the problem. I was using a junky USB reader but it worked fine when I tried it on another computer's built in reader.
