SD Card Image Recovery

I suppose this belongs in Security, if not, please move this to the applicable forum.

An old harddrive of mine, containing pictures, crashed. It's impossible for me to recover the data from the harddrive, so I was wondering if I could do it directly from the Sd card that the images were originally taken on.

I know that there are programs designed for reocvering pictures from flash cards, but none that i've found so far can recover the pictures, as they were taken about a year ago.

Is there any way that a program can scan deep enough to recover pictures from that long ago?

All of the ones that i've tried can only recover pictures from the last 2 months

Is this possible? If so, what program could be used to do it?
