When I scroll through a web page the ability to scroll "times out" or just quits and I must left click the mouse to continue. This happens in IE6 as well as in Netscape. When I am writing am email message or even in Word, the same thing happens. The insertion bar quits and I have to left click to continue. Other symptom: The page "winks" when this happens. I don't recall this happening before SP2. I am new to XP with my new Dell, but I don't think I had this difficulty with Win98 nor with XP before I downloaded the upgrade. Earthlink told me it was not their software. I have contacted Dell, but no response yet to two inquiries. Anybody else have this problem? Fixed?  Thanks for any help :)

    scrolling stop

Jim, not sure about immediacy of problem after SP2 download. Reboot during daily startup, have anti spyware and up to date virus protection Norton. Will try uninstall SP2 and sys restore as well as IE repair. Thanks :) Peter

    Scrolling restored

I uninstalled SP2. Looks like that was the culprit. Visited web pages, wrote an email message and used Word. Seems to have cleared up. thank you for your help :)

wmpmacm--Thanks for posting back with your results. Glad to hear the good news.
P.S. With a shotgun approach, I had a chance of suggesting the right answer. :)

    Welshjim,
Just to let you know this has worked many times before......I think of it as "Instinct" or "6th Sense ". Either way it's an "ATTABOY" :D
