    Hello All,
I just purchased some software for managing contacts, e-mail, appointments, etc. but I cannot use any of the features due to scripting errors... Any ideas on how to fix this?...I have IE6 & W98se & all Windows updates.

    Here is more info:

    IE Scripting Error

An Error Has Occured On This Page
    Line: 24
    Char: 34
    Error: syntax error
    Code: 0
    URL: file://D:\Program Files\Contact Manager\dashboard\tools\close, htc.

This happened after loading IE6 updates...I uninstalled IE6, cleaned out the registry, & reinstalled everything again, but to no avail.

    Regards,

James Martin--I think that message is telling you that the writer of the program has made a scripting error. Nothing you can do about that, but you can fix it so you do not get the message(s) any more.
IE Tools|Internet Options|Advanced tab|uncheck the box "Display a notification about every script error" and check the box "Disable Script Debugging ". Click Apply and OK.

    Hello WJim,
I checked my settings under Advanced Tab, but they are already set to your instructions...It may very well be a software error...I e-mailed their tech support Saturday, maybe there is a patch or fix for this problem...Concerning the Advanced settings, should that stop all the script error messages from popping up?...I am still getting the error messages, even though I was already at the settings you posted...I had been running IE5 due to problems with IE6, but since I had reformatted & reloaded W98se lately, I thought I would try IE6 again...IE6 was already loaded onto the CD Rom I bought...I chose to let it update my browser & then load the program...Everthing was working fine with the software until I downloaded the latest IE6 updates...I also ran a virus check on the CD Rom but it came up clean.

James Martin--Yes, those setting should turn off scripting error messages.
I understand that the programs are disabled by these messages (IOW, you can't just click the message off and proceed).
Let's see what the tech support people say. In the meantime and if you are in a hurry, perhaps uninstall and reinstall. (Turn off any antivirus and ideally all other programs when you do.)
Obviously, if their software is defective, and you paid for it, you should at least be able to return it, get reimbursed, and seek alternatives. If you did not pay for it, perhaps uninstall and seek alternatives?
You could also try to uninstall one or more of the recent MS IE patches to see if that fixes things (the patch download page usually tells you how to uninstall, if that is possible). If that works, then you must decide if you want to live without the patch.
    Good luck.

The tech people sent me an e-mail today with a fix...All I had to do was delete a space between 2 items in the programs registry, so I was able to lick that, but as I was drafting an e-mail afterwards, I got another error message but I can't remember what it said...I tried to duplicate the process just now, but no errors to report so far...I might have gotten the 2nd error message because I haven't cofigured the e-mail settings yet...I'm waiting on another tech response to see just how to do the configuring part...I was hoping to be able to use both OE6 & the new e-mail program, if thats possible...This is new territory for me...About the Windows patch, are you referring to the update site where you download Critical Updates?

    Regards,
