Have created a shortcut to a screensaver, however, when I use it, I am not prompted for password on resume.

Can this be done in Windows XP Professional?

Sure. Go to Display in Control Panel, select the Screen Saver tab, and make sure that On resume, display Welcome screen is checked.

Your account needs to have a password set for this to work.

No, without that being available it's not possible.

Is this option unavailable on any of the 'standard' screen savers too?

Search the registry for a Value ScreenSaverIsSecure and SCRNSAVE.EXE, if found, delete them.
