    From the Desktop--> Settings--> Screensaver.

The time to execute the screensaver is dimmed out. Don't know how but its dimmed and therefore prevents a screensaver being activated.
    Any ideas?

Local policy set preventing screen saver changes?

Your logon account has insufficient rights to make changes?

Sounds like something in the registry is not loaded properly or is loaded and is blocking you.

The registry items you should have are
    ScreenSaveActive
ScreenSaverIsSecure (only works if you log on with a password)
    ScreenSaveTimeout
    SCRNSAVE.EXE

    If you have entries in
    HKCU/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Windows/Control Panel/Desktop
for screen saver values, they will be in control and will stop you from making changes.

    Otherwise, look in
    HKCU/Control Panel/Desktop for the following
ScreenSaveActive and a value of 1 is active while 0 is not active
ScreenSaveTimeout and a time in seconds before it activates
SCRNSAVE.EXE should be pointing at a .scr file

You should see the same entries with the same values in
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\desktop

    ok, I've cleared out the
HKCU/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Windows/Control Panel/Desktop (emptied out the value in the second entry)

Rest is ok with timeout at 6000

The screensaver is now accesible but doesn't come on at the specified time interval of 1 minute.

Also, the preview shuts off immediately after starting that up also.
    Any more ideas?

Are you trying to use one of the screensavers XP came with, or another program for your screensaver?

Im using the mystify one that came with Windows.
    Im using Win XP.

I've just been thru turning everything I could (Off) thru the Task Manager and also doing a msconfig and unchecking everything for startup.

I waited for a minute and still no screensaver which leads me to believe that it must be a registry setting.
