    Hi All,

I have been using Netscape 7 for about a month and recognize that it has a few problems which will be fixed with later updates. Recently I tried adding a screen shot to an e-mail. It did not work. Going back to NS 4.79 and using the same techniques the screen shot went out with the e-mail.

Since I follow this board on an almost daily it seems to me that Romano included screen shots in replying to a problem. Am I using NS 7 properly or what should I be doing to get the screen shots to paste in my outgoing mail? Thank you.

    Hi derfsch,

I put up screen shots on my personal web page to help out with a problem. That's probably what you're remember.

To add a screen shot, or any image to email:

In Edit|Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings
Enable: Compose Messages in HTML Format
    Open the Mail Composition Window
    Select: Insert|Image
Then browse to your screenshot location on the HD
It will be inserted into your email.

If you have any problems, let us know.

Ramona, My apologies for misspelling you name again. I'll get it right eventually.

I have no problem putting images in my mail. The situation that I'm discussing is the difference between the effect produced in NS 4.7 and NS 7. To obtain the screen shot I use a program that allows me to selectively define the area of the screen shot which is then copied to the clipboard. With NS 4.7 this can be pasted in my e-mail at the cursor position. With NS 7 nothing happens when I try pasting the copied image from the clipboard.

To comment further on your reply, there seems to be a difference between our NS 7s. With the mail screen open I click on Edit to go to the Mail & Newsgroups Account settings. The left (and subheadings) or right panels do not contain any place to "Enable: Compose Messages in HTML Format." Instead I must go to Edit > Preferences> Mail & Newsgroups> Send Format, then to the right panel where the "Send the message in both plain text and HTML" is checked. This is where I normally keep the Send Format but I have tried just having the HTML checked with the same results, no pasted image. Thank you for your continued interest.

    Hi derfsch,

I see what you are referring to, and no you can't copy and paste an image into your email composition window. I really do miss that feature too! :(

Our Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings are the same, I'm sure. It's easy to miss the setting, so I put up a screenshot for you on one of my web pages. Look for the cursor arrow at the bottom of the screenshot.

This does not enable a copy and paste of images, however. You have to do it through the "Insert" feature.

    Hello again Ramona,
Nope. There is no check block for Compose messages in HTML format. There is a check block for Attach this signature, a space for the signature, and a Choose button (the space and button are grayed out.) On my Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings screen there is nothing between the Signature space and the OK, Cancel, and Help buttons.

You have answered my original question and, like you, I'm disappointed that we can't paste images in the NS 7 mail. This means that I'll keep the NS 4.7 on my system for a long time. Thank you again.

    Hi derfsch,

From which site did you download your Netscape? Is it by chance the "Compact" version?

    Hi Ramona,
I'm not sure where I downloaded NS7.0 from but it is the compact version, 12 Meg. What's up?

    Hi derfsch,

I asked because I haven't seen a Netscape build without the Option for composing HTML Mail Messages. In the Help | Help & Support Center this instruction is included:

    ---
Using Netscape Mail | Creating HTML Mail Messages | Using HTML in Your Messages

To specify whether to use the HTML editor as the default for composing messages, begin from the Mail window:

    1. Open the Edit menu and choose Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings. You see the Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings dialog box.
    2. Select the mail or newsgroup account you want to use.
    3. Select "Compose messages in HTML format." You see the Formatting toolbar in the Compose window. Leave this box unchecked to use the plain-text editor for this account.
    ---

This is getting curiouser and curiouser. Click on the Help Menu | About Netscape. It will give you the User Agent String on the very first line. It will look something like this:
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020823 Netscape/7.0 (CK-SillyDog) Copy yours, if you will, and post it for me.

    Thanks!

    Ramona :D

    Hi Ramona,
It looks the same to me, except for the (CK-Sillly Dog) portion. Here is what I have :

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0.1) Gecko/20020823 Netscape/7.0

Thank you for the patience you are showing for something which is probably not related to my original post.
