I just started up my computer and the whole screen changed positions from reading left and right to reading top to bottom.
To describe it better to you, I'd tell you that if you would turn your whole monitor(I mean physically) clocksise 90 degrees to the right from where it is now(obviously it wouldn't be comfortable, but imagine it), you'd see what I see when I have my monitor in normal position.
I can't read anything comfortably as the text is coming from top to bottom.[I'm writing this on someone else's computer as mine is too annoying.]
    Please help.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this to get it back to normal view of text running from left to right?[It's not just the text it's everything, including pictures]
Do you think it's a virus?

It's likely that that is being caused by a setting of your monitor software. Do you have any buttons on the front of your monitor that are used for accessing those settings? If so, press and parade through them until you come across the rotation setting and make the necessary change there.

If not, perhaps your particular monitor has settings elsewhere. Right click the open Desktop and choose "Properties." Poke around (check all tabs) there for some item that may help to restore the correct rotation.

There is a setting in your Monitors control panel (or maybe your display control panel, it depends where the software which came with your monitor put it) which will fix this. Look for landscape/portrait images or a rotation section. I could be more specific if you posted the make and model of your monitor.

There may be a box that you can uncheck somewhere in Display settings so the screen can't be rotated. I can't remember which key you can hold (either Ctrl or Alt?) while pressing the Arrow keys to rotate the screen back.

    Jeff25 ...

First of all, welcome to the BBS.

Second, you didn't say whether your computer is a desktop or a laptop and, if a desktop, whether the monitor is a CRT or LCD.

There are several threads on the BBS over the past few months dealing with screen rotation. The common theme seems to be that, on a number of different makes of laptops, Ctrl + Alt + arrow key will change your screen orientation. This is true on my IBM/Lenovo T43 laptop, which uses an Intel graphics card.

This is not true for my desktop computer, which has an ATI graphics card driving an LCD monitor. On it, I must call up the ATI "Catalyst Control Center ", either from the Systray icon or from Display properties, and select screen rotation from a drop-down menu ... it doesn't provide for a key combination.

Some LCD monitors, which can be rotated 90°, provide software to rotate the display when the monitor is rotated, but that doesn't seem to be your case. Instead, look in Display Properties > Settings > Advanced for a tab related to your graphics card (not the "Adapter" tab). There should be information, or a setting, related to screen rotation.

    HTH, and good luck.
