Screen saver not working, something to do with the microsoft wireless mouse. There is suppose to be an optional windows hardware update that fixes the problem. I cannot seem to find the update. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Marvin

Thanks for the info Pete, I tried this last night and the update was not on the list of available updates. When I get back to my computer, I will try again, maybe I did something wrong in going to the updates. There were some options to update my monitor hardware, but no other optional updates available. Am using Vista Home Premium on a HP Media Center Computer system.

I'm not running Vista, but on Microsoft Update there should be a link in the left hand side of the window to Hardware, Optional.

The problem with going to the source is that it directs you to the windows update, which for whatever reason does not show the optional hardware update in question, and as to disabling the wireless receiver, then the wireless mouse stops working. I would prefer to have both the screen saver and the mouse working at the same time(what am I missing). Why should a new wireless mouse by microsoft be incompatible with Vista, also a microsoft product? No wonder I stayed with Win98SE so long. I have automatic windows update, but I don't think it automatically updates the optional updates, and I checked my updates and don't see the update in question.

When you go to windows update are you choosing custom? If not, select it instead of express. Once it's finished scanning your system, look in the left pane. There should be a link for hardware updates. I would recommend not installing any video update if available. Just install the mouse driver or whatever it is. For whatever reason, I've seen plenty of problems in the past that were caused by MS hardware updates. You're better off to get video, sound, etc. from the manufacturer of the hardware. IMHO

Thanks for the info and advice. Yes, I selected the custom install and still did not see the download in question, but your suggestion to see if there is an update to mouse driver might be a good idea. I believe that the update in question does something to the wireless receiver for the mouse and keyboard that keeps it from interfering with activating the screen saver. I will check out drivers for the mouse.
